Martha Work Ashelman Bio

Martha, a native Californian, has lived several diverse lives. As the wife of a Foreign Service Officer she lived overseas for 17 years, dragging four children through five countries. Twenty years ago she set up residence at Coolfont Resort in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia and founded and directed Coolfont's fitness programs, residential health spa and massage departments. Starting in 1987 she concentrated on developing a program to teach her greatest health achievement -- breaking free from smoking. Over 1000 people have gone through her Breakfree program in the past 18 years and her loyal "graduates" acclaim her ability as an inspirational teacher to keep them motivated and "free" of cigarettes. "Giving up nicotine is no small feat. From directing this program for 13 years, I know the issues that need to be addressed in order to free yourself from this addiction. It is just as serious an addiction as drugs or alcohol because of the devastating effects on health. SmokeFree offers a headstart with group support, healthy lifestyle changes, fitness activities, natural therapeutics, and helpful ways - both emotionally and physically - to deal with the discomfort. The programs are held away from the normal environment in a safe situation where smokers can trust the leaders to help them deal with the frightening prospect of going through withdrawal. If you have tried to quit with no success, I hope you'll consider attending this program."
